Some time ago, I discovered that one of my chairs had a broken leg. I didn’t think there would be any difficulty in getting it mended , as there are a whole lot of antique (古董) shops near my home . So I left home one morning carrying the chair with me. I went into the first shop expecting a friendly reception. I was quite wrong. The man wouldn’t even look at my chair.
The second shop, though slightly more polite, was just the same, and the third and, the fourth-so I decided that my approach must be wrong.
I went into the fifth shop with a plan in my mind. I placed the chair on the floor and said to the shopkeeper, “Would you like to buy a chair?” He looked it over carefully and said, “Yes, not a bad chair. How much do you want for it, sir?” “Twenty pounds,” I said. “OK,” he said, “I’ll give you twenty pounds.” “It’s got a slightly broken leg,” I said. “Yes I saw that, it’s nothing.”
Everything was going according to plan and I was getting excited. “What will you do with it?” I asked. “Oh, it will be easy to sell once the repair is done.” “I’ll buy it,” I said. “What do you mean? You’ve just sold it to me,” he said. “Yes, I know but I’ve changed my mind. I’m sorry. I’ll give you twenty-seven pounds for it.” “You must be crazy,” he said. Then, suddenly the penny dropped. “I know what you want. You want me to repair your chair.” “You’re right,” I said. “And what would you have done if I had walked in and said, ‘Would you mend this chair for me’?” “I wouldn’t have agreed to do it,” he said. “We don’t do repairs, not enough money in it and too much trouble. But I’ll mend this for you, shall we say for a five?” He was a very nice man and was greatly amused by the whole thing.

The Chinese word “Shanzhai” means a small mountain village, but now it becomes an accepted name for fakes (假货), after “Shanzhai Cell-phones” produced by small workshops in southern China became popular in the mainland market over the past two years.
Besides “Shanzhai” electronic products, there are “Shanzhai” movies, “Shanzhai” stars and even a “Shanzhai” Spring Festival Gala (联欢晚会), a copy of the 25-year-old traditional show presented by CCTV on Chinese Lunar New Year’s Eve.
“Shanzhai” has become a culture of its own, meaning anything that imitates something famous.
In Chongqing , “Shanzhai” version “Bird’s Nest” and “Water Cube” woven by farmers with bamboo attract wide attention from tourists. Both are copies of the famous Olympic buildings in Beijing .
A literature critic said that taking the “Shanzhai” Gala as an example, when the traditional CCTV program becomes less and less attractive to the audience, the “Shanzhai” version appears timely to attract people. “Although it is often connected with poor techniques and operation, ‘Shanzhai’ culture meets the psychological needs of common people and could be a comfort to their minds,” he said.
To the mainstream (主流的) culture, the rise of “Shanzhai” culture is a challenge and a motivation (动力). People believe different kinds of cultures developing together is a perfect situation and it is for the public to choose.
59. According to the passage, “Shanzhai” culture refers to ______.
A. the action that a person imitates famous people

60. We can infer that the mainstream culture ______.
A. is held back by “Shanzhai” culture

D. may develop faster because of the challenge of “Shanzhai” culture
61. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage?
A. “Shanzhai” culture will definitely disappear
B. “Shanzhai” culture takes on life of its own
C. “Shanzhai” culture — the mainstream culture
D. “Shanzhai” culture — the mountain village culture
C
When it comes to friends,I desire those who will share my happiness, who possess wings of their own and who will fly with me. I seek mends whose qualities illuminate(照亮)me and train me up for love. It is for these people that I reserve the glowing hours, too good not to share.
When I was in the eighth grade, I had a friend. We were shy and “too serious” about our studies when it was becoming fashionable with our classmates to learn acceptable social behaviors. We said little at school, but she would come to my house and we would sit down with pencils and paper, and one of us would say:“Let’s start with a train whistle today. ” We would sit quietly together and write separate poems or stories that grew out of a train whistle. Then we would read them aloud. At the end of that school year, we,too, were changed into social creatures and the stories and poems stopped.
When I lived for a time in London , I had a friend. He was in despair(失望) and 1 was in despair. But our friendship was based on the idea in each of us that we would be sorry later if we did not explore this great city because we had felt bad at the time. We met every Sunday for five weeks and found many excellent things. We walked until our despairs disappeared and then we parted. We gave London to each other.
For almost four years I have had a remarkable friend whose imagination illuminates mine. We write long letters in which we often discover our strangest selves. Each of us appears, sometimes in a funny way, in the other's dreams. She and I agree that, at certain times,we seem to be parts of the same mind. In my most interesting moments,I often think:“Yes,I must tell. . . . ’’We have never met.
It is such comforting companions I wish to keep. One bright hour with their kind is worth more to me than the lifetime services of a psychologist, who will only fill up the healing(愈合的) silence necessary to those darkest moments in which I would rather be my own best friend.

第Ⅱ卷(非选择题共75分)
五、任务型阅读(共10题,每小题1分,满分10分)
请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中填入最恰当的单词。
注意:每空一词。
While many people dream of a better life, a handful of us are daring enough to take an act of faith and experiment with our own lives. Whether it’s going back to school to start a different career, or owning our own business, we realize that life is too short to play it safe.
As we’re aware, taking risks in life will help open up new challenges and chances that would otherwise not have been present. Not only would it push you to learn new skills but also prepare you for any possible chances that may appear.
When you take on new challenges and chances, it helps remove previous misunderstanding about your abilities. By doing so, you could set up new boundaries that were once considered beyond your comfort zone. In addition, it’ll also help change your opinions on life because you’re more confident and qualified(有资格的)with the extra knowledge and experience gained. This in turn, would help you achieve larger goals in life and you’ll soon realize that anything is achievable once you work hard for it.
Taking risks in life will also help with creativity .When you are willing to risk actually reaching a goal, it’s possible that your natural problem –solving skills develop and you’ll begin doing what you can to achieve your goals. Rather than making excuses, you’ll become more skillful even with limited resources(资源) and be willing to try something new to see if it works.
You’ll soon recognize that the more risks you take in life, the less likely you’ll be afraid to try something new in the future because you’ve overcome(克服) your fear of failure. Because not every step in life can be carefully planned, it’s important that you have the courage to venture into new fields in an effort to achieve your dreams.
Through risk-taking, you’ll also learn valuable lessons that’ll help you improve personally and professionally(专业地). Not only will you be able to clearly know what you really want in life through these experiences but also learn from any mistakes or failures along the way.
Albert Einstein wisely stated that “a ship is always safe at the store--- but that is NOT what it is built for”. Although it’s much easier to play it safe, you must realize that we are all designed to achieve greatness. So raise your anchor(锚) and set your sails to your dream destination today because life is too short to play it safe!
Reasons why you should never play it safe

十、书面表达(共25分)
阅读下面短文,然后按要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
It is a little-known fact that many of the materials we consider as waste can actually be recovered and reused either for recycling or energy recovery. In an age of environmental awareness and the need to protect our planet, both of the above ways are much preferable to the somewhat “easier” solutions of landfilling (填埋) or burning.
European citizens will not have failed to notice that waste sorting and recycling, particularly at a household level, are becoming increasingly important. While the various EU countries take different attitudes to how and which waste to separate, the trend will be to separate as much useful waste as possible and deal with it in the most proper manner. As for cycling, a new law in Europe states that 50% of all household waste must be reused or recycled by the year 2020.
We are now making so much stuff which will someday soon end up as trash, that we will need a dozen more planets to contain all the rubbish, which is undoubtedly not a good way. So every single individual should act now. Your efforts count. Only if every individual cares will he / she help and only if he / she helps will all be saved.
